Glaucoma always holds a family history and develops in old age. If remain untreated it can cause blindness within a few years. The early symptoms of glaucoma are:

Blurred vision
Halos around lights
Severe eye pain
Tunnel Vision
Excessive eye fluid
Headache
Abdominal pain
Nausea
Vomiting

Diagnosis and Treatment:

Comprehensive eye exam is the only way to know that you have glaucoma. The tosee20/20 optometrists use in-office technology, family and medical history to screen and diagnose glaucoma. A couple of tests are also performed:

A dilated eye exam: Look rear of your eye
Visual acuity test: How well you see distant objects
Tonometry: Measure of pressure of eyes
Gonioscopy: Look front part of your eye

Treatment for mild glaucoma includes eye drops or oral medication that diminishes eye pressure and prevents further harm. For advanced stage glaucoma, optometrist may refer you to ophthalmologist for laser or conventional surgery.
